The Groom’s Cake
The Groom’s Cake is not as well known as the normal wedding cake, but is gaining in popularity. A groom’s cake, briefly, is a wedding tradition normally associated with the Southern United States. The tradition says that a young lady who sleeps with a slice of groom’s cake under her pillow will supposedly dream of the man she will marry.
The groom’s cake will normally be made of chocolate, or if not, will be liquor-soaked to give it a dark tone. Whereas the main wedding cake has a feminine look, the groom’s cake is, naturally, prepared to appear more “masculine.”
So why have a groom’s cake? First, it can serve as a dessert for the rehearsal dinner. Or if you prefer to not have the main wedding cake eaten, perhaps guests can eat the groom’s cake.
If you do have a groom’s cake, it’s customary to display it near the bride’s cake, and later cut and put into boxes for guests to take home. One trend gaining popularity is to have the cake reflect the groom’s interests and hobbies. For instance, if the groom likes golf, the cake could be shaped like a golf club.
