Beach Weddings: Plan to Be Spontaneous

There is the conventional wedding, and then there is its total opposite: the beach wedding! This fun, unconventional ceremony is quickly gaining popularity in the United States, and is
one of the top wedding trends in the country in the 21st century.

Because the beach wedding is so unconventional, it follows that the wedding cake should also be fun and unpredictable. Here are some tips to consider.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS: First to consider is the shape of your beach cake. Because people are ready to accept most anything at a beach wedding, you don’t have to limit your cake to the traditional round tiered cake. You might try a round or even square one. Perhaps you could make a sheet cake, or perhaps a sculpted one. Brainstorm with others involved in the wedding plans, and remember: the focus is on fun!

SIZE MATTERS. You also need to give consideration to the size of the cake. And of course, much of this will be determined by the number of guests you expect at the ceremony. Remember that custom-made cakes can be expensive?anywhere from a couple dollars to $10 or $12 per slice! So when you’re thinking about slices, also think about what size you want the slices to be. Two inches wide is more than sufficient for a slice.

BE NICE TO THE WEATHER MAN. A beach wedding must obviously take the weather into consideration . . . and this includes the cake. Excessive heat might tend to melt the cake, and heavy rain could equally damage it. Some people even consider an ornamental cake, which is only for appearances, except for a lower layer that enables the bride and groom to cut it for the usual reception cake ceremony.
