Chocolate Wedding Cake

I heard a story recently about a couple who decided to have a chocolate wedding cake. They had everything planned. They saw a recipe they just adored in a wedding cake book. They found a baker who would make it for them at an affordable cost. That’s when they ran into a problem. Seems Aunt Suzy (or whatever her name was) was allergic to chocolate, and could not eat the cake. Aunt Suzy was an important part of the wedding party and could not be excluded, and they didn’t want to offend her. But the couple was determined that they wanted a chocolate cake. What to do?

How about separate cakes for each table? That’s right, this creative couple made a smaller chocolate cake that they used for most of the cake ceremony (the couple feeding one another, for instance). But as for the guests themselves, they ate from their own mini-cake, located at their own table. There was a smaller cake at each table, just big enough to feed the 6 or 8 people who were at that table. There were white cakes, chocolate cakes, and cheesecakes. They made sure that Aunt Suzy was seated at one of the non-chocolate tables.

This idea not only took care of those who could not have chocolate, but it ensured ample party favors for the guests to take home with them, it encouraged guests to mingle at the different tables (since in some cases, guests actually traded for the flavor of their choice with a guest at another table), and the colorful cakes made for excellent photo opportunities.

So if you want to have a chocolate cake at your wedding – or if you just want to try something fresh and innovative, give the multiple-mini-cakes idea a try!
