Romantic Wedding Cakes
As cakes get more and more specialized, a specific style of wedding cake has arisen that wedding-planners call “Romantic Cakes.” So just what characteristics qualify a cake for that designation?
Flowers are the big thing. Whether they’re fresh or sugar paste, flowers are the best way to reflect romance in your cake. Take a stacked white cake and surround each layer with red rose petals, or gather a few individual roses for a fragrant cake topper.
Other romantic floral elements include pansies, sweet peas, and hydrangea scattered over royal icing or smooth butter cream. In addition to flowers, there are popular decorating techniques that evoke romance. Swiss dot-inspired piping, basket weave patterns, and cakes wrapped like gifts all create an elegant, yet dreamy feel. Top it off with a dove cake topper, entwined hearts, or a simple monogram.
When it comes to color, sheer pastels, such as pinks, yellows, and blues help create a fairy-tale atmosphere, while an ivory fondant-covered cake remains classically romantic. Crown it with a delicate gum paste garden and edge each layer with an edible version of the bride’s wedding gown lace.
