Traditional vs. Unique Wedding Cakes
Doubtless you’ve seen reference, not just here, but in other wedding resources, about traditional wedding cakes as well as about unique wedding cakes. What distinguishes one from the other?
First, a traditional cake is usually white or ivory. White is traditional for the same reason that a traditional wedding gown is white: It’s a symbol of purity. The white theme continues with a vanilla pound cake, and usually a butter cream frosting.
Also, a traditional cake hast three tiers, and a round shape. Finally, with the traditional cake, intricate patterns and bright colors are kept to a minimum.
A unique cake is everything a traditional cake is not. It can come in nearly any form. It can have a strange shape, and often comes in bright colors and unusual flavors.
The inside of a unique cake continues the bizarre theme. It will typically replace the traditional butter cream with, perhaps a chocolate truffle filling, or even a flavor such as lemon mousse or even cheesecake.
Naturally, a traditional cake will normally go with a traditional wedding. But if you want to add a touch of excitement to your wedding, then let your mind go wild when planning the wedding cake.
